Fine Arts Friday: FROGS!

Make Your Own Frog!

Now that we’ve read about and been inspired by frogs in our writing, we are going to make frogs.

How do you want to craft? Messily at home? At the pond, socially distanced + masked with some members of our editorial team? Or not so messily at home? We have options!

Option 1 (and 2): Frog & Fly

Create your version of the frog pictured above. We invite children with parents to join Dorrie at Horn Pond on Friday, July 31st at 10am to craft together. We will meet in the field near the parking lot (see picture below). No materials necessary, but please wear a mask and be prepared to stay at least 6 feet apart. Otherwise, make your own at home!

Materials:

  • Toilet Paper/Paper Towel Roll

  • Heavy Paper

  • Yarn (about 8 inches long)

  • Paint

  • Scissors

  • Craft Glue

  • Googly eyes, if you have them

Instructions:

  1. Cut your toilet paper roll in half or cut a similar length portion from your paper towel roll.

  2. Cut front and back legs from the heavy paper. Cut a fly shape as well.

  3. Paint the body and legs whatever color and pattern you desire. Wait for everything to dry.

  4. Paint on eyes or glue on googly eyes.

  5. Once the paint is dry, glue the fly to one end of the yarn.

  6. Feed the other end of the yarn through the frog body and pinch it shut on the tip. Use craft glue to secure.

  7. Glue on all 4 legs.

  8. Once dry, try to catch the fly!

Come find us in the field near the Scalley Dam parking lot to craft at a good social distance!

Option 3

If you don’t have the materials or the inclination to make the frog and fly, try out an origami jumping frog!

Share your art!

Whatever and however you decide to craft, we want to see your work. Please share a photo of your frog in the comments here or on our Facebook page or email it to us at hornpondreview@gmail.com.
